The intricacies of life
Sometimes I wonder how things work. Things come and go, events happen people live lives some times oblivious to the word around them. Life can be a interesting... Sometimes nice... some times cruel.

Time flies whether you are having fun or not
Its been a while since I put down my thoughts on the web and as usual many things have transpired since then. For one thing the weather has got much better, one can for the most part see the sun at least every other day even if it is for a moment which is a much better situation that when it was cold and raining.
And with the sun has also come warmer weather which if you pay any attention to the natural order of things go hand in hand. Speaking of the natural order of things it is often true that after winter follows spring, sometimes around here I doubt the weather gods were given that memo.
On a new topic and tangent I finally signed up for the WEST B. I don't know if this is a final decision and my actions predict a change in scenery but change is inevitable and can be a good thing. Well its either change or something gives and why put it off till then. Something that has been on my mind lately is the effect of ones actions and the inability to predict the future. Sometimes I look back at my life and think that even though I knew an opportunity was passing me by my inability to accept change left me with a situation that was less that ideal. Was this due to a persons need to be in the comfort zone or is this being in a rut. I guess to some extent they can be one and the same but sometimes they may deviate in the finer definitions of the word.
What is a rut anyway as it applies to lives. The way I understand the workings of the mind and to those who may know better this may sound like trivial rubbish, an impulse of electric current much like what would be generated by a battery is sparked at one point in the brain and travels along a path of neurons till it completes its journey at another location. This Neurological stimulation is the basis for all actions, thoughts and ideas that a human can produce.
As babies we build some of these pathways and make them stronger through repetition. Like a callous that forms on your foot if you hike for too long a time, neurons in the brain each get stronger with use and the more one uses each pathway the stringer it gets. So by definition a rut then is a very strong pathway that is built up through repetition.
So what does a rut have to do with my life... well quite the opposite actually. I think my fear of being in a rut and my nomadic nature through my upbringing has left me with a well plowed field with no ruts but also no real path either. Like the plow horse that is allowed to drag a plow in a random and arbitrary manner the ruts overlap, cris-cross and cause general havoc that it is sometimes hard to figure out what direction I wanted to go in the first place.

Relaxing.... and thinking
Just got done with the Dork Dance. Its a energy driven hour that gets the kids grooving and expending a lot of energy and hopefully tired enough to get to bed and not stay up all night given the councilors a hard time. And judging by the looks on the kids as they headed out it will be quick turnaround to bed time. The speakers are working fine in the lodge and I am taking the opportunity to play some of my own music in all its glory and do a bit o' browsing online.
Its been a long week having worked this weekend and I don't think I am going to have another break for a couple weeks... but the season is still fresh and I still have reserves built up from the christmas break.
I have been looking into getting a new fly rod. The 3 wt I have now casts beautifully however as the wind picks up it becomes a noodle and I loose the ability to punch into the wind. I have been reading about the TFO TiCr X series rods and they seem to be the ticket. Cost wise they are relatively on the cheep side for good fly rods and I am tempted to pick one up in the 6 wt range. I also want to get one of those practice rods that has the wool and rope line. I think with me teaching my self to fly fish I am also picking up some bad habits. I should probably take a class from one of the local guides and in this neck of the woods they seem quite a plenty.
Well Life goes on and with it comes many good things. Sometimes you have to wait for it and at other times you have to go get it. The trick to it is to know when to do each as they both have their own time.

Catch up....
Lacking the ability to access the internet at any given time has been both a blessing and a curse. True I have not been distracted as much randomly clicking from one web-link to another as I spend countless hours browsing the myriad of sites that have cool information... mostly on fishing, photography or the odd discussion on some theory of physics; though I must confess the subject of physics though fascinating often ends up just going over my head on the theory end.
But during this time I have been able to spend my time looking back at my life and things that I have collected along the way. Nick nacks I have picked up in my travels, photographs I have taken, books that I have purchased but never fully getting the opportunity to read a second time once the glamour of the new page has gone and being able to actually enjoy the book for its contents.
Then there is the things that I have seen these past few days; Sunday as I was driving over the Purdy spit I noticed about 2 or 3 hundred seagulls diving and plummeting into the water as if their bodies became cupids spears and the hearts of the little fish schooling in the water were calling them by name. I was fascinated as each of those birds would crash into the water mere inches from where another had only moments before plunged in and fear that the sharp beak of the second would accidently pierce the heart of the first. But nature has awe inspiring instincts and they would both rise only to play this deadly tango with the other two hundred and ninety eight others circling and diving around them.
The last time I was witness to such a spectacle was when I was back in the south pacific and we were hunting the elusive yet highly sought after Wahoo. Then two it was a magical dance to see the swirling birds that always seem to know when to fly straight and when to turn, when to fly high and when to dive.
But my time online must be cut short as I have a hike to make before I can rest. And rest its self is an elusive creature not often found and once found not often long.

Back Online again
Its been a while but I am back. The last several days have been quite a roller coaster of a ride. New place to live... new season... new staff... new programs... and some of the same issues to deal with. But things always look better in the morning.

Late night beachwalk
I just got back from the beach, yeah its late but a zero foot low tide was at 10:30 PM and that was a good enough excuse for me to go play. I was down there for about an hour. Cant say that this was my best one but I did find quite a number of eelpout and they should make an interesting addition to the tanks. I also found a Orcher seastar and a sunflower seastar. Picked up a fist sized cockel and a small geoduck which had washed up and was lying on the top of the sand. Some sandollers rounded out the list with alge coming in as food for the critters and also habitat.
It was a clear night with no wind but its been about 40 minuets and my thumb has not quite warmed up... the water is still pretty cold.

Fishing holes and friends
Today started out like a typical spring day, sunny and nice. Although I am not sure if it is officially spring. The day was started with a drive to a fishing hole that I recently discovered, although I am sure I am not the first to do so. The water in the sound and in this bay were unusually clear, for a moment I was transported to the South Pacific and the emerald waters. I did not fish here today however I will be soon going back there. But I did see an otter catch a fish and have it for breakfast.
So far my fishing forays have been of the solo kind. During these jaunts I have met others who are of the same persuasion. And over time I am getting to know a few of them. Having been in the state or at least in this neck of the woods for over two years I can't say I know too many others that have the same interests as myself. Breaking into this fishing community has been slow but I think that it will be good to know others in the area who share the same passion for the great outdoors.
